algoma central

i recently spent a few weeks in okoboji, iowa. and just outside of town there was an old passenger train. it was on highway 9, just parked outside a farm. i took a few photographs, unfortunately i wasn't able to do anything with the light.

Ann Arbor Aphasia Camp

For the next few weeks David will be attending a speech recovery program in Ann Arbor that I affectionately refer to as "Aphasia Camp." Aphasia ("without speech") is an impairment of language, often due to stroke or head trauma (as in David's case), that affects ones ability to produce and/or comprehend verbal language.

The University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) does amazing language research and speech therapy. They have found that intensive speech therapy (more than 9 hours per week) can actually restore lost language abilities in even the most extreme aphasics, and even years after the injury. If I ever went back into the field of psychology, I would want to work at an inspiring place like this.
